travels: nyc

Took a little outing to NYC yesterday. The weather was so perfect, Bryant Park was feeling extra Spring-y.

jeweled sunnies

Spotted some bejeweled glasses in the April 2012 issue of Nylon Magazine (model images from magazine)…pretty much the shit. Such a great DIY project, and lord knows how many beads and baubles I have laying around. So…I MADE MY OWN (not posted, will show later). Bought an awesome pair of circle sunglasses and collected all sorts of glittery doodads, and started gluin’ away. I used E6000 paste, which any ex-dancer (I’m an ex-dancer) knows is the best adhesive for rhinestones, beads, jewels, buttons, trim...(you get it). It was a great rainy day project and I can’t wait to wear them and get snarls and stares on the street (that’s when you know you’re dressing right).

pumped up kicks

It's evident that the fashion world can't get enough of the Isabel Marant Perkins Sneaker. I think they've debuted on about every fashion blog/site I read. Because these high-heeled kicks aren't the most budget-friendly, I wanted to point out two brands that could potentially substitute for this fashionable sneaker (even though nothing beats the original..). The top six tennies below are by Ash, and the bottom five silk screen high tops are by Be & D. The Be & D ones are kind of hilarious to me. In a way the remind me of the great Elsa Schiaparelli's "Bow Knot" sweater, who was the first to make 3D images 2D on her clothing (also take a look at her "Tear" Dress).

ballet flat heels

I am not one to gravitate towards low heels...ever. In fact, my first impression of these ballet flat heels was, well, really not much of anything. My initial vibe was that they're too old-lady looking, however, I no longer look at them in that light. I've spotted them around NYC on young, trendy women and I've grown an appreciation towards them. I think they can add a certain chic element to a casual outfit.

miu miu candy

Miu Miu is one of my absolute favorite designers. Often referred to as Prada's "Little Sister", the clothing and accessories reflect elements that most little sisters have; whimsical, playful, fun, and glitzy (at times). I will never forget their Spring 2010 line (can be viewed here, and I still would d-i-e to have these platform pumps in my closet. Shown below are pieces from their current jewelry collection, which to me are edible (...what I more appropriately refer to as "Candy").

Jewelry can be purchased here and here.

nail colors: spring 2012

On the runways for the Spring/Summer 2012 season, I spotted a lot of nude and pastel nails. The subtle shades look both clean and almost effortless. I love the idea of a colored nail that is so subdued it almost turns into a neutral. For instance, there's a sense of dullness to Essie's 'lapiz of luxury' and Chanel's 'june' that make them able to be paired with other hues, uninterruptedly. (And by dullness, I do mean brilliance). Deborah Lipman's 'mermaid's dream' and Essie's 'mint candy apple' channel that oh-so-desired fall 2010 'jade' nail polish by Chanel. (Scoured the shelves for that one...unsuccessfully). I'm looking forward to going with a pastel/nude shade for my next manicure...although I can't decide which is my favorite!

instagram

My Instagram photo collage from the last three weeks. Involving: refreshments & bakeries (alot), campus, warm weather, bracelets, interview attire, a manicure, lunch.

pink tech

I'm really not overly obsessed with pink, promise. The laptop case was the only one in store at the time (much needed pre-college purchase). I've been on a photography "lull" lately, but now that I'm on break I'll have a few posts coming up.
